WHY OMAHA?
WHY THIS TIME FRAME?
People involved in the arts in Omaha during the 1950s and '60s continue
to look back to that period as being unique and special. Easel artists,
sculptors, commercial artists, photographers, musicians, composers,
singers, dancers, models, writers, actors, directors, behind-the-scenes
people, and friends all came together in a way often described as magical.
Some came from elsewhere
to Omaha; some have gone on to other locales; and some have remained in
town -- but so many of these people speak of that time as unmatched by
their other experiences.
This is a project to
document this special time in Omaha's
history. The Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institute, actively
document east and west coast arts. The Left Bank of Omaha
strives to make sure this Omaha
experience is not lost to the national context.
