1960
The work of Omaha artists was exhibited around Omaha in
a variety of venues, demonstrating the support between the arts and the
community at large. In 1960, Standard Blue Print showcased Artist Milton Wolsky in a one man show at their store.
Associated Artists of Omaha presented an American
Composers Showcase in the Recital Hall at the Joyslyn
Art Museum on May 27, 1960. This concert featured area musicians Robert Edson, Robert Wigton, Daniel Ferlig, Luigi Waites, and
Richard (Toby) Rappolt. Toby, a med student from
New York, often jammed with local musicians throughout his term of studies.
This concert, of course, provided yet another occasion
to party - this time at the home of Clare Haas for an
"after-set".
Elfi Hosman
(now Hornby) a ballerina from Germany, came to
Omaha with her G.I. husband, and started a ballet school, and later Ballet
Omaha. Elfi and artist Isabella Threlkeld collaborated on interpretive dance and music
of the Joslyn Art Museum's permanent collection
in its galleries.
1960 was the tenth year for the Associated Artists of
Omaha to sponsor Beaux Arts Week. A sidewalk art show with jazz musicians
was held on the grounds of the Douglas County Courthouse. And the Beaux
Arts Ball, always a hit with artists and non-artists, was held May 21, 1960
at the Carter Lake Club. This year's theme was: Ball Fantastique.
The Beaux Arts Ball was held May 21, 1960 at the Carter
